Botanize the asphalt

Botanical projects brings together the most recent works and projects, all of them linked to the scientific discipline of Botany. This is an open artistic research that adopts the herbarium as a processual strategy, and likewise appropriates the naturalist’s attitude as a framework of poetic performance. The research is based on certain scientific theses where the herbaria are analysed as environmental indicators, linking climate change with times of blooming.

The herbaria that make up this series are also products of the botanizing of a place, consequently they are also indicators of the appearance of the city, the experience of travel, history, tales, people. The plants are arranged and presented from a particular taxonomy that corresponds to other affinities, sometimes divergent, elective or paradoxical, and whose relational extensions lead us to a rich dialectic between the plant world and the human world.

The research unfolds in different typologies of work: the herbaria, the botanical maps, the dendro-maps or urban dendrologies, finally, the horticultural actions or crops. In some of these cases the herbarium is a product of the botanizing of a predetermined place, in others it is a souvenir that records the travel experience. The idea of the herbarium often occurs in parallel to the engagement book, given that both are conditioned by the passage of time and the experience of place.

This way of proceeding, alongside the meticulous fieldwork of the naturalist or the <ethno-botanist>, adopts an obvious absurdity whereby the objective appears as unfeasible: situate that which is misplaced in the globalized space of our cities. Searching for analogies and convergences between the urban macro-plot of our cities and the microstructures of botanical species we discover that the cosmos is full of meaning.
